ANOHNI | HOPELESSNESS | PARK AVENUE ARMORY

Anohni (fka Antony Hegarty)
Red Bull Music Academy Festival

Red Bull Music Academy and Park Avenue Armory are proud to present the world premiere of Anohni’s live show for her new album, Hopelessness, on two consecutive evenings in New York. Featuring original films, the celebrated singer, composer and visual artist will bring her politically charged masterpiece to the stage. With her haunting work in Antony and the Johnsons and her flooring contributions to the Hercules & Love Affair project, Anohni has established herself as one of the most fragile and fiercest vocalists around. Expect to see another breathtaking chapter to her story take shape for the first time ever on May 18th and 19th at Park Avenue Armory, as part of the Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York and the Armory’s Spring-Fall 2016 programmatic offerings.

Maybe the queen (Naomi Campbell) will make a visit?! Can only hold my breath.

Currently Obsessed: SEVDALIZA

For her latest interdisciplinary project “That Other Girl”, Sevdaliza teamed up with Pussykrew discovering their mutual passion and corresponding references for 3D technology.

In this video, Sevdaliza has fallen victim to her own creation of a safe vacuum. Submissive to deep-rooted emotions and assumptions, Sevdaliza finds herself imprisoned in her own paintings and sculptures. Can she remain unflawed? She has become nothing more than a statue surrounded by surreal environments. Identity becomes a game, however she remains in control of the computed bodies. She breaks the stereotypes of gender roles and constructs to manifest a different notion of cyborgian identity. Sevdaliza’s husky vocals float over a mechanical bed that excites masculine energy and sexual adrenaline. As the song continues, a rhythmic tension builds slowly into a chaotic climax. Every retribution becomes more intense and personal, yet she isn’t able to break from that obscure statue of a woman.

Micro-Exhibition hosted by Terreform ONE | BASF Creator Space™

By 2050, there will be more than nine billion people living on Earth, primarily in cities. The needs of the growing world population for good living conditions, energy and food can only be met through innovations. Terreform ONE, a non-profit design group that promotes smart design in cities will host a series of exploratory and radical proposals for development of these smart cities. These proposals address the ecologies of cities, systems and objects at a number of different scales and incorporate contemporary bio-design methods.

A reception with a panel talk about the pieces and the trends they relate to will be held in the evening on May 28.

image still: FKA twigs - how's that

FKA twigs has announced details of her much-anticipated debut album, LP1. The London-based producer, singer, songwriter and video director will release LP1 on August 12th, 2014 via Young Turks.

LP1 is FKA twigs defining artistic statement to date, building on the success of her two previous EPs and accompanying videos ('EP1' and 'EP2'), which have elevated FKA twigs from a word-of-mouth secret to global obsession over the past two years. LP1 features none of these previously released songs; instead each track on LP1 is brand new, born out of FKA twigs' artistic philosophy of spontaneous creation and collaboration in the studio.

LP1 also features artwork from Jesse Kanda, who has manipulated his own photographs of twigs to stunning effect. Kanda previously directed the acclaimed videos for FKA twigs' 'Water Me' and 'How's That' songs.
